Deev Collection
Custom-made, Digitally Designed and 3D-Printed Objects and Furniture Designed by Studio EP/ Ebrahim Poustinchi
The origin of Deev (Dīv) may come from the Vedic deities (devas) who were later demonized in the Persian religion (after Zoroaster funded Zoroastrianism/Mazdayasna).
In Ferdowsi's tenth-century Shâhnâmeh (the Persian/Iranian long Epic poem/book, with over 50,000 two-line verses) they are already the evil entities endowed with roughly human shape and supernatural powers familiar from later folklore, in which the deevs are described as ugly demons with supernatural strength and power.
They are capable of transformation and performing magic. They can be lazy, ignorance, rebellious, provocative, sleepy—among many others—but, they are equipped with magic! With their magical powers, they could turn people into statues by touching them.
Living a hybrid ancient-contemporary life, Deev Collection is a family adopted from a mythological origin. Their immature multi-directional embryonic "body" like topology on one hand, and multi-orientational/multi-scalar reading suggestions, on the other hand, along with their historical/mythical connections, create an ontological offset between different "realities" of Deev as an object/furniture. Through these misfits/offsets, Deevs can be explored as a canvas for dynamic projections of characteristics and readings/misreadings. They are underdeveloped--to open possibilities for misreading, yet defined enough to retain their being as a Deev.
Deev Collection is a series of custom-made, digitally designed, and 3D-printed couture objects and furniture. Each of the Deevs augmented with a superpower, magically perform, specifically, one single task. Whether holding up a table, embracing a single leaf or a flower, or collecting NTF and media art and displaying them, each Deev is carefully designed and made to their magic at the best.
